Continuing Professional Education (CPE)

To be eligible for licence renewal, all licensees must complete annual Continuing Professional Education (CPE) course(s) by June 15 every year. CPE courses are offered online and can be completed at any point by the licensee after it becomes available until the CPE deadline.

Licensees who are newly licensed between January 1 and June 30 are not required to complete CPE for that renewal cycle, but licensees may complete the CPE as an elective.

The Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS® (NSAR) facilitates CPE courses. Please contact NSAR to register.

2025-2026 CPE Requirements

For the 2025-2026 CPE, salespeople are only required to complete one course. Broker level licensees (associate brokers, managing associate brokers and brokers) are required to complete two courses.

For the 2025-2026 CPE cycle, all licensees (salespeople, associate brokers, managing associate brokers, and brokers) are required to complete Professionalism Sells.

For the 2025-2026 CPE cycle, all broker-level licensees (associate brokers, managing associate brokers, and brokers) are also required to complete the broker CPE: Keeping It on the Rails.

Ensure you complete the correct course(s) for your licence class. If the deadline arrives and you complete the wrong CPE (ie. a salesperson who completed the broker course by mistake) or only one course if you are a broker-level licensee, your CPE requirements will not be deemed satisfied and your licence will be terminated July 1.

CPE courses will be unavailable from June 16 - July 14, 2026.

CPE EXEMPTIONS

Applicants who become licensed as a salesperson after January 1, 2026 — including those who completed the NSAR Salesperson Licensing Course and passed the NSREC exam, as well as applicants transferring an existing salesperson licence from another Canadian jurisdiction — are exempt from the current mandatory CPE course, Professionalism Sells.

However, this exemption does not apply to broker-level licensees. All associate brokers, managing associate brokers, and brokers are required to complete both mandatory CPE courses, Professionalism Sells and Keeping It on the Rails. This is a requirement regardless of whether they became originally licensed in a broker-level class in Nova Scotia or if they transferred their broker level licence to Nova Scotia from another Canadian jurisdiction.

Although exempt salespeople as indicated above are not required to complete the 2025-2026 CPE course Professionalism Sells, they are still welcome to complete the course voluntarily.

If You Fail To Complete Your CPE Before June 15

All licensees must complete their mandatory CPE course(s) by 11:59 p.m. on June 15, 2026. Failure to do so will result in ineligibility to renew your licence(s), and their licence(s) will be automatically terminated on July 1 at 12:00am. CPE courses are unavailable for a few weeks after the June 15 deadline.

To resume trading, you must complete your CPE requirements (when it becomes re-available in mid-late July), apply for reinstatement, pay applicable fees, and wait for your licence to be reissued before resuming activity.

After June 30, the Commission shares a list of any and all licensees who failed to meet their CPE requirements before the deadline and and had their licences terminated effective July 1. This list of names is published on the Commission's website and distributed via news bulletin, idenifying the licensees as automatically terminated for failure to meet their CPE requirements before the deadline.

To avoid being included in the non-renewal notice, you must either renew your licence, submit a termination before June 30, or pay for a licence extension.

LICENCE EXTENSION

Licensees who do not complete CPE by June 15 may apply for a 30-day licence extension. All outstanding CPE must be completed within the extension period. The cost of a licence extension is $1,000 + HST.
